Create your favorite coffee-shop drinks at home with the Rancilio Silvia! Commercial-grade steam power and a marine-grade brass boiler ensure quality, consistent results. If you're the kind of coffee consumer who's looking for maximum control over your espresso, the Rancilio Silvia is the machine for you.
The V6 features some important upgrades from previous models of the Rancilio Silvia. Most notable is the new matte-black group cover, a stylish update from the chrome-plated cover of past models. New users of the Silvia will be happy with the updated button icons, which are now more user-friendly and easier to understand. To complete the package, you now also get a professional-grade, wood handle espresso tamper, a much-needed upgrade from the plastic tamper that has been included with past Silvia models.
The Rancilio Silvia is continually one of very few home espresso machines to offer a commercial quality brewing experience. No other espresso machine at this price offers a heavy-duty stainless steel body, a true commercial brew group, and a marine-grade brass boiler. The Rancilio Silvia M V6 employs a 3-way solenoid valve when brewing to prevent over-extraction of espresso and to relieve excess pressure at the end of the brewing cycle. Silvia is Rancilio's semi-professional machine. It offers excellent service to demanding connoisseurs of high-quality coffee beverages, qualities for which, since 1927, the Rancilio company has been known and appreciated around the world. The Silvia is designed to be paired with a commercial quality grinder such as the Rancilio Rocky for the best gourmet espresso experience.
Just like the exceptional commercial espresso machines made by Rancilio, the Silvia M V6 uses a heavy-duty chrome-plated brass portafilter, which features an ergonomic grip handle and weighs in at nearly a pound and a half. The Silvia M V6 also comes with two pressed stainless steel filter baskets (a single shot and double shot version) which both measures 58mm in diameter. Although the included baskets are designed for use with ground coffee, the Silvia can accept E.S.E. (Easy Serving Espresso) pods with the Rancilio Pod Adapter Kit (sold separately). Other 58 mm filter baskets can be used with the Silvia; however, either a bottomless portafilter or a triple shot portafilter is required for pulling triple shots.
The Rancilio Silvia group head (or the part of the machine that accepts the portafilter) is made of chrome-plated brass. Designed after the brew group on Rancilio commercial espresso machines, the Rancilio Silvia group head evenly distributes heat and reduces "hotspots" for temperature-consistent espresso. It has also been designed to evenly distribute water across the coffee grounds for a better extraction. The Silvia group head is easy to disassemble and clean for proper maintenance and uses a heavy-duty rubber gasket to create the proper seal when brewing. This gasket is can be easily replaced as part of a normal maintenance after many years of use.
The Silvia's boiler is made of marine-grade lead-free brass and has the largest volume (12 oz./10.5 oz. minus heating element) of any home machine in its class. This large volume produces the best steaming power and recycles time when brewing multiple espressos. Made of heat-distributing brass, this boiler can quickly get up to coffee-brewing or milk-frothing temperature and stay there. Three thermostats are built into the Silvia; one controls the temperature for espresso, one controls the temperature for steam, and a third specifically monitors the boiler to protect it from overheating or building up too much steam pressure. Should the boiler overheat, the thermal protection thermostat can be reset.
The Rancilio Silvia incorporates a 3-Way solenoid valve into the brew group to give you complete control over the espresso brewing process. Only high-end home and all commercial espresso machines feature a pressure relief system that helps reduce splatter if you should inadvertently remove the portafilter too quickly. The pressure relief system, featuring a three-way solenoid valve, also greatly reduces dripping after the brew switch has been turned off. Additionally, the spent coffee grounds are not soupy but instead comprise a "dry puck" of coffee grounds for easier cleanup.
The Rancilio Silvia has a stainless steel drip pan and cup tray, both easy to remove and clean. A cup-warming surface on the top of the machine lets you keep your espresso cups at the right temperature so that the espresso isn't cooled when it enters the cups.
Brushed stainless steel construction gives the Silvia an industrial-chic look; sleek, functional and unassuming. The housing is only part of the story. Inside the housing, you will find that Rancilio used a rust-resistant steel frame, stainless steel bolts, and screws, and only the finest tubing and fittings.
After filling the Rancilio Silvia M V6 espresso machine with water, and priming the machine for its first use, push the large central power switch. The adjacent orange indicator light turns on and stays on until the Silvia heats the water in the boiler to coffee brewing temperature. After the Silvia is thoroughly preheated, it's ready to go! A column of three large professional grade rocker switches handles each of the machine's functions: the top is for espresso, the middle for hot water, and the bottom is for steam.
Flip the espresso brew switch and a rich, hot, creamy coffee will start to brew, first flowing out black then changing to a golden tan. Switch it off when you have the amount of coffee you want.
For lattes and cappuccinos, flip the bottom steam button. When the orange light goes off, open the steam valve, and start frothing milk. The Rancilio Silvia M V6 espresso machine features a new commercial-grade and length steam wand with 1-hole tip. In 1.5 minutes the Rancilio Silvia V6 will have enough milk to make the average size latte up to temperature. Simply put, the Silvia outperforms every cappuccino machine under $700 in the steaming and foaming race. You'll be up to your elbows in milk froth! For hot water, simply flip the middle switch, then open the steam valve knob and hot water gushes out from the steam wand. Great for cafΓ© Americanos or hot teas!

In order to keep the inside of your machine in ultimate functioning order, it must be periodically cleaned. Scale buildup from naturally occurring minerals in your water can build up on sensitive components like the inside of the boiler, which left unchecked can cause considerable damage to the machine. In addition, coffee oil build-up behind the shower screen (the part of the machine that comes into contact with the coffee grounds in the portafilter) can restrict the flow of water into the portafilter. This results in an uneven brew with insufficient pressure. By descaling your machine every month and cleaning it every other week (assuming you brew one to three shots of espresso per day), your machine will be trouble-free for years. We recommend a product like Urnex Dezcal for monthly descaling, and Urnex Cafiza for coffee-oil and scale cleaning semimonthly.
The Rancilio Silvia M V6 is warranted against defects in parts and workmanship for 1 year with J.L. Hufford. Year 2 covers labor only and parts would be responsibility of the customer. This service contract includes free labor at J.L. Hufford's service facility and covers internal parts excluding replaceable parts such as the group head gasket, portafilter basket, and shower screen. Any damage resulting from abuse, misuse, mishandling, lack of maintenance, or catastrophe will not be covered. This includes damage to the boiler heating element, which only happens when a user does not ensure the boiler is fully charged with water upon startup or after steaming. This warranty applies only for household use in the United States. Commercial use will void the warranty. J.L. Hufford will pay for shipping after warranty service is complete to the contiguous 48 states only, extra shipping charges will apply for Hawaii, Alaska, or Puerto Rico. As with any new espresso machine we sell, the Rancilio Silvia is backed by J.L. Hufford's 30 Day Satisfaction Policy.

I really like this machine. You donβt get the feeling that it is full of plastic and computer chips like so many fancy ones. Sort of like a car with a straight six and manual transmission. Gets you where you want to go.
After 10 years, my old Silvia espresso maker gave up the ghost. I was frustrated when other sites said they donβt ship to Hawaii. Hufford had a new Silvia in stock, and a quick phone call with a very friendly human resulted in my placing an order. It only took three days to get here, and Iβm loving the crema on top of the espresso which Iβm drinking right now.
Dear JL. The shipping was good and timely. One of the attractions of your site was your return policy. We liked the machine but it would not pour a good cuppa. We called your customer service and followed their suggestions. One thing was noticeable that we have not experienced on other machines is that after 20 seconds of espresso, there is a gush of very watery liquid...definitely not the "crema". We tried everything before deciding to return the machine. The first customer service person we talked to on 2/11 was very helpful and when I expressed concern I may not have time to return the machine, he said don't worry. The second person we talked to 4 or 5 days later...was very clear that the machine had to arrive exactly on time....which was a different story. He said that your company would not pay for shipping and that shipping to a commercial address is cheaper than to a private party...not true. I shipped the coffee machine on 2/13 with a 7-10 day guarantee. It cost $100. It is an expensive experience. I will look for a local provider in the future. Steve and Na Belcher, Oakland, CA
Customer Service was wonderful - Our first Silvia maker was defected and we received a replacement ASAP. Great customer service.
Fast delivery, very well packed, excellent machine. What's not to like?
