What is Dalgona Coffee? Learn Why this Coffee Trend is Taking Over Tik Tok

COVID-19 is changing the world everyday. While this virus spreads, people are encouraged to stay home, wash their hands, and avoid touching their face. "Social distancing" is being promoted to help flatten the curve of the virus, because while many people can easily get over COVID-19, there are still a lot of vulnerable people who could seriously suffer if they contract the virus (stay home!). In the majority eastern Asian countries, self quarantining is being taken very seriously. While they're all staying home, social media is being utilized more to stay connected with the world. In South Korea, one thing that's been trending on Instagram and Youtube is Dalgona Coffee.

Dalgona itself is a vintage, toffee-like candy. Dalgona Coffee was given the name because it shares a similar taste to the candy. It's also known as whipped coffee in countries like India and Pakistan, because essentially it is a "whipped" coffee. Combining equal parts water, instant coffee, and sugar, the mixture is then whipped until it's a creamy, caramel brown color. Then, the whipped coffee is poured on top of milk and ice. In the end, it looks like creamy peanut butter on some milk.

Instagram and Tik Tok are full of posts with the hashtage #달고나커피 (#dalgonacoffee), because of the coffee's aesthetically pleasing look. Every day, more and more people are sharing their take on the yummy beverage, which is bringing people together during this pandemic. So don't make Dalgona Coffee just because it's delicious, make it because you can put a little joy into the world when it's needed most.

How to Make Dalgona Coffee
